Outlast is a first-person action–adventure survival horror video game developed and published by Canadian company Red Barrels. The game takes place in a desolate psychiatric hospital overrun by homicidal patients, situated deep in the mountains of Lake County, Colorado and owned by the Murkoff Corporation where a freelance investigative journalist named Miles Upshur decides to investigate about the whole fiasco happening in the asylum after having received an email from an anonymous person raising concerns about the safety of the facility and Murkoff. This is not your usual survival horror game where the player can have a traditional weapon or any ammunition to fight the enemies. Not even close. The gamer will be put in the shoes of the protagonist, reporter Miles Upshur, who is by the way, incapable of combat but can still fend off enemies and other horror elements through the use of a scripted sequence. Also, players have to navigate the ransacked environments of facilities with free running, just by vaulting over low obstacles, crawling, and sliding through narrow gaps. Survive that and you get to unravel the long hidden darkest, deepest secret that you have been searching for. Set in an exceptionally designed heavy atmosphere, exquisite storyline, and overwhelming gameplay, you will surely feel the immersion for it is of course developed by veterans of some of the biggest game franchises in history.
