Hotline Miami is a 2D top-down action video game by Jonatan Söderström and Dennis Wedin, collectively known as Dennaton Games. It was published by Devolver Digital. Hotline Miami is a an explosive (literally and figuratively) high-octane action game overflowing with brutality and violence, hard-boiled gunplay and relentless close combat. In fact it is so brutal that brains and guts are splattered everywhere. Everything takes place in alternate 1989 Miami, and you will assume the role of a mysterious pyscho on a murderous rampage against the shady underworld. In each stage, the player navigates a building and the goal is almost always to kill every opponent inside. You will be given access to a wide variety of melee, thrown, and ranged weapons, and will need to handle challenges through either stealthy tactics or just plainly shoot everyone. It’s brutal, bloody and extraordinarily unforgiving. Thanks to Hotline Miami, the 8-bit top-down shooter genre gets put in the spotlight again after Retro City Rampage. It deserves its reputation as one of the most brutal games ever made.
