  • While going through the main story you can chat with various friendly characters like the cyborg corgi, take on part-time jobs like being a bartender, hunt down vicious criminals, or investigate the true identity of a trending V-streamer. You will walk all over the city such as neon Noctis town, an offshore cargo ship, or the huge underground network underneath the city, the world is your oyster.
  • Experience a unique combination of 2D and 3D gameplay, seamlessly switching between 2D action platforming and 3D exploration to interact with the world’s inhabitants, this is pixel gaming from another perspective.
  • Hordes of enemies will stand in your way for your quest for truth shoot, combo, slash, throw a grenade, and ground pound your way to victory. Use all kinds of weapons like greatswords, double spades, pistols, rocket launchers, and uppercuts, to become the one-person army you always wanted to be.
  • Improve Anne’s gear by collecting or crafting items and upgrading her stats directly, make use of chips to modify and kind of weapon by providing them with specific buffs to make sure you are always combat-ready against different kinds of enemies humanoid or not.

As it stands, this is a tough one to recommend as long as the bugs persist, but it may be worth checking out after a patch or two to resolve the more blatant issues.

With the game’s ending hinting at a possible sequel, Mutationem stands as a messy first draft. If a follow-up does come, I hope ThinkingStars’ will have the confidence to boldly stand and tell its own unique story rather than remain so shackled to its inspirations.
